Debra Zern

Bio: Debra (Deb) Zern is a Senior Leader at Intermountain Healthcare in Salt Lake City, UT. Her current position is in Laboratory Services as the Director of Quality and Internal Process Control. She started her 40+ year career as a bench tech and gained an interest in improving processes and efficiencies and supporting regulatory compliance. As a Quality Assurance Manager and auditor with Intermountain Lab Services she participates in standardization initiatives that improve quality within Intermountain’ s twenty-three laboratory sites. Under her leadership Intermountain Laboratory Services became one of the first multi-lab groups to participate in the CAP System Inspection Option. She has developed and managed a high-level Quality Assurance Team that support each facility with regulatory compliance, standardization and quality improvement. Her passion is to make laboratory testing affordable, to integrate efficiencies at all levels and to be prepared for changes that are inevitable. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling with her husband and spending time with her children and 13 grandchildren.
