Rita D’Angelo
Bio: Dr. Rita D’Angelo works as a professional consultant to bring The ADVANTAGE to healthcare institutions. Rita has extensive experience in the diagnostic laboratory field, from bench technician to regulatory, accreditation and quality managerial experience for the American Red Cross, for an FDA-regulated chemical manufacturer, and for Henry Ford Health System.
Dr. D’Angelo led the multi-year initiative that culminated the first ISO 15189 accreditation of an integrated system of laboratories in the USA and through her consulting company continues to assist other large laboratories as they prepare for ISO 15189 accreditation.
Dr. D’Angelo was the former Manager of the Quality Systems Division of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine within the Henry Ford Health System. She developed a robust Quality Management System and co-founded the Henry Ford Production System LEAN enterprise where she transformed the typical management system of a large business unit of 35 sites to a Toyota Production System.
Dr. D’Angelo developed a Lean training program and has taught and certified thousands of healthcare professionals in LEAN management. She has trained staff at numerous universities and large complex departments across the country in performance improvement and ISO 15189.
Dr. D’Angelo holds a Ph.D. in Industrial and Systems Engineering, a master’s in health administration, Six-Sigma Black Belt and quality engineer certifications from American Society for Quality, Lean certification, and serves as adjunct Professor in the Villanova University School of Professional studies.
